set .. pow!

I love the Olympics and it’s been the only reason our TV has been on nonstop since the Opening Ceremonies. I’ve been amazed at the track & field events lately, watching athletes compete for just a matter of seconds for something they’ve been preparing for for years and years. I listen for the announcer who calls the athletes to get ready & take their form by saying one word–“SET”–and then hearing the “POW!” of the gun go off before athletes become a blur of legs racing towards the finish line.

Student leaders are getting ready for that “SET” moment as we near the end of the summer and the beginning of the semester. There is a slower pace of campus ministry during the summer, but even still since the end of May student leaders have been looking to the fall semester and praying, dreaming, and planning for the 16,000 students (4,000 freshmen!) who will step onto campus in September. The month of August is a crazy time of finalizing plans, going to staff trainings, leading student leadership retreats, and preparing for the different welcome events and ministry groups for the year. It’s a lot of behind the scenes prep work, and

While we get ready for that “SET” moment, here’s what’s coming up & how to pray (thank you for praying with us!!!):

Aug 13-16: Regionals Staff Training & Divisonal Team Meeting
Pray for unity in vision and an ability for all staff (all of the New England staff will be there) to hear from God; pray for the new staff in our region this year, that they would feel welcomed & fully a part of the team; specifically for me, pray for an ability to engage in all that’s going on (I tend to get overwhelmed with big conferences & meetings)

Aug 26-30: Summit (student leadership & training retreat with area New England schools)
Pray for students to register & attend; for unity in vision and an excitement for the upcoming year; for students to encounter Jesus and receive what they need to enter in the school year; for students to have fun!; for myself as I co-program direct for the first time, that I would be able to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of the students & staff leading them; and for physical safety & protection for all at camp.
